Maxxis’ Wienen, Upperman 1-2 at ATV MX R9

Chad Wienen took his third consecutive victory with a win at Round 9 of the ATV Motocross National Championship series. Josh Upperman joined him on the podium in second place at the race, held July 28 in Buchanan, Michigan.

Wienen was 2-1 for the day, and also took the Fastest Qualifier award. Although he was hampered by a bad start in the first moto, he took the lead early in the second, and held the front position for the remainder of the race. “I’m really excited about the overall win at Red Bud,” Wienen said. “It’s my favorite track on the circuit and the track was in excellent condition this weekend. There were tons of fans there to support me this weekend. I’m looking forward to the final race of 2012 coming up in two weeks to finish off this championship run!” Upperman, who was 4-2, ran solid races in both motos.

Both riders achieved their results with the help of the Razr MX in the rear and the Razr Cross in front. “We just had the right setup and had a great qualifying time. The first moto wasn’t bad, and it was on for the second,” said Upperman. “I ripped the holeshot, and the bike just hooked up so much in every corner. It slid perfect, and as soon as I was throttling out, the tires just hooked up. It was awesome.”

With 421 points, Wienen is just 15 points away from clinching the Pro title. Upperman is fourth in the series’ points standings, while Thomas Brown in fifth overall.

Maxxis’ sponsored rider Cody Gibson turned in his customary outstanding performance during the weekend. Gibson remains undefeated in Pro Am Production, and took his seventh Pro Am Unlimited win of the season.

Maxxis congratulates Chad Wienen and Cody Gibson on their victories and thanks all of its riders for their excellent performances.
