02012 Yamaha YFZ450 Test
.
The Bottom Line
At a time of needed economic recovery, many publications in our industry continue to pressure manufacturers for not releasing more updates, expensive upgrades, and new models. Yamaha has thrown sand in their faces by bringing back an older model with fewer features, although its performance is in some ways enhanced. The YFZ450 is a proven reliable, high performance ATV, in stock and lightly modified states of tune. It still feels fast and modern, and is priced more within reach for many prospective buyers
At $6,799, the YFZ450 is $1,800 less than Yamaha’s own 2012 YFZ450R; $1,200 less than Honda’s TRX450R; and $1,300 less than the 2011 Kawasaki KFX450R. It’s even $300 less expensive than Suzuki’s 2012 Z400 and a mire $500 more than Honda’s air-cooled 1980s powered TRX400X. You would have to spend a lot of money on the Z to make it run with the YFZ, and it’s not likely that any amount of money would ever make a 400X run with a YFZ450 with a simple, slip-on exhaust and the airbox lid removed.
