Media Allstars Muddy Creek Race Report… “Business as usual”

Morehead, KY – After nearly a month off from the traveling circus that is the ATVA MX Nationals the series got back underway for round 2 at Muddy Creek Raceway.  After near perfect track and weather conditions for Friday’s practice, the big fear in the pits was the 70% chance of rain for the area on Saturday.  The rain did make an appearance but luckily it was a short one.  The track crew opted to play it safe with the heavy chance of rain and leave the track extremely hard packed and although it dried out quick it really resembled a TT track with all the blue groove sections instead of the loamy soil Muddy Creek has offered racers in the past.  Neither the track, nor the weather could slow down Team Media Allstars though, as they continue their strong start to the 2012 season.

Saturday’s racing got off to an impressive start as Jake McGraw took to the line for the first moto of the day.  The #83 MotoXperts Powered Suzuki rocketed out of the gate and pulled the holeshot in Production A.  McGraw was on the gas and won the moto going away.  Jake also had similar success in just his second outing in the super fast Pro-Am Unlimited class as he flew out of the gate once again and earned a 2nd in that class’s first moto.  A sub par start in both the Pro-Am and Production A mains would rob Jake from making it a career weekend but he still earned 7th in both classes for overall scores.  More importantly it’s the confidence boost he received from running up front with the fastest racers in the country that will really make the difference as the series moves forward to round 3.  Team MVP for round 2 was a toss up.  Dylan Tremellen #940 went 3-1 to score the overall win in the College Boy (16-24) class.  Add that to his 450A and 4-stroke A podium finishes and it’s hard to deny he had an amazing weekend.  On the other hand Brett Musick was once again a man amongst boys in the Production and 450 B classes as he went 1-1 and took home wins in both.  Brett is off to an amazing start to the 2012 season after moving up from the 90 mod class a year ago.  The #209 Honda rider is now officially 8-8 on moto wins for the year… he’s yet to lose a race!  It must run in the family though as Brett’s father C.D. Musick also earned a podium in the 40+ class.

Matthew Holley #9 is slowly becoming just as fast as his older brother!  The younger Holley brother had the best finish of his short racing career as he found himself finishing up 3rd overall in the 50sr (6-8) class.  Speaking of Josh Holley #7 he’s still experiencing a few growing pains as most all young riders do when they make the switch from an Automatic machine to a Shifter bike.  Still he finished up 9-6 for 6th overall in the 90 mod (6-11) class.  Ryan Wheeler #52 looked to have finally gotten the monkey off his back as he rode his way to a 3rd overall in the Open B class.  Josh Rager #92 and Chase Cunningham #419 also earned top 5 honors in the Production B (Josh) and 25+ (Chase) classes, and the Vet 30+ A class was well represented with Mark Batson #636, Dale Batson #671 and Mario DiAngelo #67 even alumni team member Dustin Schuler rode his 250R in the 30+ C class. It seems like every weekend a few riders just can’t catch a break and much like Jake McGraw’s second moto’s at Muddy Creek, Dan Hoisington #71, Brandon Benlien #03 and Calen McGinty #33 found themselves on the wrong end of some misfortune at round 2.  If it wasn’t for a motor issue (Benlien) an over aggressive competitor in practice (Hoisington) or a rock in a brake rotor (McGinty) all three of these talented riders would have finished better than what the results show.

The newly formed Media Allstar Alumni segment had a really strong showing at Muddy Creek as well.  Casey Martin put his Ricky Bobby themed Honda on the podium as he went 2-2 for 2nd in the Pro-Am Production class at Muddy Creek.  Martin has now finished runner up at the first two races and is right in the thick of the championship race, not bad for a guy that didn’t even know if he was racing until March. If you’ve not had a chance to attend a race this season, the custom Media Allstar graphics on the #75 machine is reason enough.  It’s hard not to cheer for a guy with a cougar on the hood!
